Rev. Phil A. Ware and his wife, Myrna, began their work at Duncan First United Methodist Church on June 8, 2006. Rev. Ware served as the Enid District Superintendent for six years before coming to Duncan. His sermons are trademarked by truthfulness and sincerity.
Wopsle joined the staff here at FUMC October 1, 2007. He’s served in Youth Ministry for 7 years before coming to Duncan. He and his wife Amy have been married just over a year and have moved here from Norman, Oklahoma. Wopsle attended 3 years of college at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond pursing a music education degree.
Wopsle believes that Youth Ministry is one of the most important callings in the world! He knows the influences teens face and believes that the church can capture the attention of this young generation and point them toward Jesus. He believes that this is best accomplished by partnering with parents and doing everything we can to reach this generation and lead them into a passionate relationship with Christ. “I know the influence my youth pastor had on me. We still talk weekly and I know I wouldn’t be where I am on my walk with Christ if it hadn’t been for him. I love being a good influence in teenager’s lives and look forward to seeing young people here in Duncan begin to reach their full potential in Christ!”
Amy joined the staff on October 1, 2007. She has a bachelor's degree in professional writing and a minor in Spanish from The University of Oklahoma. Amy was an active member in her youth ministry at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church throughout high school. This is where she first developed a passion for serving in youth ministry. In college, Amy was a volunteer for Journey Church in Norman and was eventually hired as the Student Event Coordinator. Amy and her husband Wopsle served at Journey Church for 5 years. Both are passionate about youth ministry and missions and enjoy seeing the glory of God made known!
Kathy joined the staff on October 1, 2006. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from OCU and 35 hours in graduate studies in the Master of Arts in Religion program, also at OCU. She taught elementary school in Duncan and also taught as an adjunct faculty member at OCU as well as creating and directing the Continuing Education in Religion program at OCU.
Kathy believes that her love of people in general and children in particular, as well as more than 35 years as an active volunteer in all areas of the life of this church, make her well-suited to this position. “When I reflect on my experience as the mother of 3 and the grandmother of 5, combined with my degree in education and my graduate studies in religion, I’m convinced that I have been preparing for this position all of my life!”
Stephanie joined the staff August 15, 2006. Being the daughter of a military chaplain, Stephanie experienced many different styles of worship from all over the world. She is a single mother of four boys ranging in ages from toddler to teenager. Stephanie is also currently a junior at the University of Oklahoma persuing a major in Letters and a minor in Political Science and Religous Studies.
Stephanie is very active here at FUMC. She is very involved in the children's ministry, leading children's church and volunteering in many child related activities. "I love my position here at the church. I feel I have been choosen for this work that I to do for God and God's people. The atmosphere here is very uplifting and encouraging and I feel very blessed to be able to be a part of that."
